Changing Perceptions: Women in the Balkans

The situation of women in the region is often complex. Although the former communist regimes acknowledged their role in the workforce, society and politics, traditional gender roles have proved resilient. Today's women grapple with the opportunities and challenges of a fast-changing technological society, while also seeking to protect their rights.

With EU membership on their wish lists, many countries are making progress in gender equality, laws and practices. Perceptions towards women are changing, and so is their way of life.
