Albania, Belgium sign agreement on prisoners

30/07/2010

TIRANA, Albania -- Belgium will send 93 Albanian prisoners back to their homeland after an agreement signed on Thursday (July 29th) in Brussels. Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme said his country has been having difficulties with Albanian criminals for two decades. He praised the deal, which followed four months of negotiations. Prisoners will be extradited "as soon as possible", he added. Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha said these issues belong in the past, as crime rates in Albania are below the EU average.
