Serbian parliament appoints central bank governor

29/07/2010

BELGRADE, Serbia -- Parliament approved Dejan Soskic as the new National Bank of Serbia (NBS) governor on Wednesday (July 28th), replacing Radovan Jelasic who resigned in March citing personal reasons. All 129 lawmakers present supported Soskic's nomination. They also elected Bosko Zivkovic to succeed him at the NBS Council of Governors. During a press conference after his appointment, Soskic said the exchange rate may push local prices up, thus adding to inflation. He added that the central bank must act quickly should this happen.
