BUCHAREST, Romania -- The trial against former diplomat Silviu Ionescu over a hit-and-run car incident in Singapore began in Bucharest on Tuesday (July 27th). The December 2009 incident left one person dead and two injured. Ionescu, 49, pleaded not guilty to counts of murder and leaving the scene of an accident, and insists he was set up by Singapore authorities. Attending Tuesday's session was Singapore's ambassador to Brussels, Anil Kumar Nayal. (Adevarul, Romania Libera - 28/07/10; AP, Realitatea, Hotnews.ro - 27/07/10)
