Hague tribunal rejects Krajisnik's request

28/07/2010

THE HAGUE, The Netherlands -- The UN war crimes tribunal turned down on Tuesday (July 27th) former Republika Srpska (RS) Parliament Speaker Momcilo Krajisnik's request for early release. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence in a British prison. Krajisnik was arrested in 2000 for the persecution and forced deportation of non-Serb civilians during the 1992-1995 Bosnian conflict. Convicted in 2006, he was first sentenced to 27 years in prison, which was later reduced to 20. ICTY President Patrick Robinson said on Tuesday that early release may be requested only after a convict has served two-thirds of his or her sentence. (Beta, Tanjug, B92, Fena, RTRS - 27/07/10)
