NATO diplomat in Afghanistan outlines Turkey's role

19/07/2010

ANKARA, Turkey -- NATO senior civilian representative in Afghanistan, Ambassador Mark Sedwill, said on Sunday (July 18th) that Turkey plays a significant role in shaping the Alliance's agenda in the country and internationally. "The key thing is that we have a common strategy, which countries and people who know the region are involved in shaping. Turkey has a critical role to play in that, and that we communicate those strategies with the Afghan people themselves," Sedwill, who took over the post in January, told the Zaman daily. He visited Ankara last week for the first time since taking office to meet with senior military officials and politicians. (Zaman - 18/07/10)
