Blizzards pummel southeastern Romania

08/02/2010

BUCHAREST, Romania -- Fierce blizzards have blocked dozens of roads and left about 20 towns and villages without electricity in the south and southeast, the Interior Ministry announced on Sunday (February 7th). In Bucharest, a code-orange alert is in effect until Monday night. Schools are closed and many roads are impassable. Part of the highway connecting Bucharest and Constanta has been closed and rail service is also been affected. (Mediafax, Evenimentul Zilei, Romania Libera - 08/02/10; Realitatea, AFP - 07/02/10)
