ATHENS, Greece -- Two police officers charged in the death of a teenager in December 2008 pleaded not guilty on Friday (January 22nd) as their trial began in Amfissa. The proceedings opened on Wednesday but were postponed because until a key defence lawyer could attend. Police officer Epaminondas Korkoneas, 38, is charged with killing Alexis Grigoropoulos, whose death spurred a wave of protests and violence throughout the country. A second officer, Vassilios Saraliotis, 32, is charged as an accomplice.Alexis' mother, Gina Tsalikian, testified Friday that Korkoneas deliberately shot her son.
