ANKARA, Turkey -- Mehmet Ali Agca, who tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981, was freed from a Turkish prison on Monday (January 18th). Agca, 52, spent almost 30 years in Italian and Turkish prisons over his attempt to kill the late pope and for the murder of a Turkish journalist in the 1970s.
