Pope John Paul II's assailant released

ANKARA, Turkey -- Mehmet Ali Agca, who tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981, was freed from a Turkish prison on Monday (January 18th). Agca, 52, spent almost 30 years in Italian and Turkish prisons over his attempt to kill the late pope and for the murder of a Turkish journalist in the 1970s. Details about the papal assassination attempt remain a mystery. Agca has received over 50 offers to put his memoirs in book or movie form. (BBC, Press TV, Reuters - 18/01/10
