Albania celebrates Independence Day

29/11/2009

TIRANA, Albania -- The country celebrated the 97th anniversary of its independence on Saturday (November 28th), with most observances held in Tirana and the seaside town of Vlora, where the national flag was first raised in 1912. In his official address to the nation, President Bamir Topi said that 97 years later, Albania is a country "with clear identity", and "a member of NATO" that will soon become an EU member as well.
