EC says Greece, Bulgaria will be affected by global warming

26/11/2009

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Bulgaria and Greece, along with Spain, Portugal and Italy, will probably be among the countries that will suffer the most serious financial consequences of global warming, experts from the Joint Research Centre at the European Commission (EC) said in a report Wednesday (November 25th). Unless measures are undertaking, global warming might result in EU financial losses of 20 billion to 65 billion euros, the specialists warned. Their document was drafted based on research involving several scenarios of increasing temperatures and sea levels. They said the biggest economic losses will be suffered by countries in Central and Eastern Europe. (AFP, BTA - 25/11/09)
