10/11/2009

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Leaders of countries in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) gathered in Istanbul on Monday (November 9th) to discuss ways to boost economic co-operation amid the global financial crisis. Addressing participants in the forum, Turkish President Abdullah Gul urged better co-operation among members on many fronts. "Our countries face global challenges such as urbanisation, immigration, industrialisation, negative effects of climate change ... and serious problems with socio-economic and environmental dimensions," Gul said. The meeting brought together 11 presidents, three vice-presidents, six prime ministers and 18 ministers from Islamic countries.
