Serbia detains health officials

BELGRADE, Serbia -- Police have detained eight health officials -- including former hospital directors -- for abuse of power and corruption. The suspects allegedly caused losses totalling 665,000 euros to the city of Belgrade stemming from tenders to procure medical equipment. Technical characteristics and conditions were allegedly set to favour one specific company. (BHRT, Dnevni avaz, RTRS, Srna, Fena, B92, Tanjug, Beta, RTS, Blic - 22/10/09)
