Serbia satisfied with EC report

15/10/2009

BELGRADE, Serbia -- Government officials hailed on Wednesday (October 14th) the European Commission's (EC) annual progress report regarding eventual European integration. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic described it as very positive, as did Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, who acknowledged more remains to be done in order to become an EU member.

In other news Wednesday, police arrested eight people suspected of murder, robbery, and drug and weapons trafficking. The joint operation was carried out in Belgrade, Sabac and Sremska Mitrovica following a year-long investigation. The organised crime group appeared to operate in Serbia and neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, US Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen Rapp kicks off a two-day visit to Belgrade. He will be discussing Serbia's level of co-operation with The Hague tribunal. (RTS, FoNet, B92, Tanjug, Beta, Medjunarodni Radio Srbija - 14/10/09)
