ATHENS, Greece -- Four large wildfires broke out in the outskirts of Athens and on the island of Evia on Monday (June 15th). The blaze in the southern Ano Glyfada district near the capital threatened homes and power lines. More than 100 firefighters, eight aircrafts and two helicopters were deployed to battle the flames, but strong winds hampered the operation. A number of local residents were evacuated from their homes. Forest fires were also spotted in the Marathon district, Inoi, and in southern Marmari.
