ANKARA, Turkey -- A Turkish prosecutor has demanded life sentences for nine suspects charged in the killing of 44 people at a wedding party in the southeastern province of Mardin in May, media reported on Saturday (June 13th). The indictment, filed at the public prosecutor's office in Mardin, demands that the suspects be sentenced to life with no chance of parole. They suspects also face additional jail sentences of up to 200 years for injuring another 10 people in the armed attack.

On May 4th, a group of masked assailants carrying automatic rifles attacked a wedding party, killing 44 people including the bride and the groom, six children and three pregnant women. The incident stemmed from a blood feud among villagers. (Hurriyet, TRT, CNNTurk, AFP - 13/06/09)
