Deal on Cyprus crossing point expected soon

NICOSIA, Cyprus -- The two Cypriot communities are close to reaching an agreement on a new border crossing between the Greek and Turkish-run parts of the divided island, Cypriot President Demetris Christofias said on Thursday (June 11th) after his latest round of reunification talks with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. The two leaders are expected to conclude the deal in two weeks at the latest. The new checkpoint will be in the northwestern village of Limnitis.

According to Christofias, he and Talat also reached an agreement on certain economic issues during their last round of talks. (Philelefteros, Famagusta Gazette - 12/06/09, CNA - 11/06/09)
