Romanian troops to stay in Iraq until 2011

BUCHAREST, Romania -- President Traian Basescu announced on Monday (December 1st) that Romanian troops will remain in Iraq for three more years. "We will stay in Iraq until 2011 or until our allies leave," Basescu told a video conference of Romanian army officers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans. He explained that the Iraqi government requested the extension. (AFP, Xinhua, Agerpress - 01/12/08)
