Bulgarian security agency denies persecuting journalists

05/10/2008

SOFIA, Bulgaria -- National Security Agency (NSA) Director Petko Sertov on Friday (October 3rd) denied allegations his agency has been politically persecuting journalists. He underlined the NSA has not placed journalists under surveillance or collected their personal data. The director said he would resign if the claims turn out to be true. On Thursday, Eliana Maseva, member of the parliamentary Committee for Internal Control, said the NSA has investigated a wide range of journalists in order to stop information leaks from the agency.
