ANKARA, Turkey -- Members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) opened fire on security forces Tuesday (September 30th) in the Hani district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir. On its website Wednesday, the Turkish General Staff said the fighting killed one soldier and injured another. It gave no further details.
In other news, Turkey's new legislative year officially began on Wednesday after a two-and-a-half-month summer recess. Next week, observers expect lawmakers to vote on a proposal to extend the army's authority to launch cross-border operations into northern Iraq for another year.
