Military plane crashes in Serbia; 14 die in head-on crash in Turkey

BELGRADE, Serbia -- A military aircraft crashed on Wednesday (September 24th) at the Batajnica airport near Belgrade during a training flight, the Serbian defence ministry said. The crash killed Istvan Kanas, one of the top pilots in the air force, media reported. The army said he was training for an upcoming air show.

Also Wednesday, a truck and a van collided in northwestern Turkey, killing 14 people, most of them relatives returning to Istanbul from a funeral. The two vehicles crashed head on near the town of Gerede in the province of Bolu after the van attempted to overtake a third vehicle.
