Thirteen newborns die in Turkish hospital

ANKARA, Turkey -- Thirteen newborns died in a 24 hour period at the weekend in a hospital in the western town of Izmir, according to the head of the local health directorate, Mehmet Ozkan. He announced on Monday (September 22nd) that an investigation is under way, adding that so far there is no evidence of neglect. According to local media reports, all 13 were born prematurely. In July, 27 premature babies died within two weeks at a hospital in Ankara. (AFP, Anadolu news agency - 22/09/08)
