UN's Downer to attend launch of direct talks on Cypriot reunification

NICOSIA, Cyprus -- UN special envoy for Cyprus Alexander Downer will attend the launch of long-awaited direct talks between leaders of the two communities on the divided island, Deputy UNFICYP spokesman Captain Thomas Pavlik told CNA on Tuesday (August 12th). Pavlik said Downer will arrive in Cyprus on September 2nd, a day before the start of talks between President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat.
