Montenegrin parliament approves law on presidential elections

28/12/2007

PODGORICA, Montenegro -- Parliament approved a new law Thursday (December 27th) on presidential elections. Under it, the president would be elected by a direct, popular vote for a term of five years. Candidates should be nominated by political parties or groups of supporters and would be entitled to run if they manage to collect the signatures of at least 1.5% of registered voters. Montenegro is due to elect a new president this spring. Incumbent Filip Vujanovic's term officially expires on May 22nd. (RTCG, MINA, Antena M - 27/12/07)
