Macedonia adopts key legislation regarding NATO bid

05/12/2007

SKOPJE, Macedonia -- Political leaders adopted legislation that meets some of the preconditions for NATO accession, the US embassy in Skopje said in a statement Tuesday (December 4th). On Monday, parliament adopted a package of measures hammered out by the ruling parties VMRO-DPMNE and DPA and the opposition (SDSM and DSI) late last week. Lawmakers unanimously approved a measure on the prosecutors' council, while the law on the prosecutor's office was adopted by a two-thirds majority. Parliament also approved the law on the commission for relations among ethnic communities. (Makfax, A1 - 04/12/07; Makfax - 03/12/07)
