14/08/2007

BUCHAREST, Romania -- The government reportedly will submit a memorandum to the European Commission (EC) seeking support for farmers in cases of natural disasters. Adrian Ciocanea, head of the European Affairs Department, told reporters on Monday (August 13th) that it will a be a general request, in light of weather changes expected to affect crops in the coming years. The Agriculture Ministry will outline the main issues that would require quick intervention and support by the EC. Ciocanea says Romania wants to continue a system of direct support to farmers.
