Serbian ruling party agrees on pre-election coalition with New Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia -- The main boards of the ruling Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the smaller New Serbia (NS) formation confirmed on Sunday (November 19th) that the parties would form a coalition for the January 21st parliamentary elections. It will also include candidates from United Serbia, a small regional party, and the Serbian Democratic Renewal Party, which consists of defectors from the Serbian Renewal Movement.

Separately, another coalition was announced at the weekend. It includes members of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Civil Alliance of Serbia, the Social Democratic Union, and the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina. (Blic, Danas - 20/11/06; Beta - 19/11/06)
