Rehn says SAA talks with Serbia will resume after Mladic case resolved

31/05/2006

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro -- EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said on Tuesday (30 May) that Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) talks with Serbia would be relaunched as soon as Belgrade fulfils its obligations to the UN war crimes tribunal. At a news conference after a meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic in Belgrade, Rehn reiterated that the primary obligation is the arrest and extradition of indictee Ratko Mladic to The Hague.

Rehn also confirmed the European Commission's stance that the 21 May independence referendum in Montenegro was conducted in line with international standards and that leaders of the two republics would overcome any problems in the post-referendum period. (RTS, Tanjug - 31/05/06)
