Multinational Military Exercise Under Way in Albania

12/07/2005

TIRANA, Albania -- A multinational military exercise dubbed "Adriatic Engagement 2005", began on Monday (11 July) with the participation of Albania, Macedonia and the United States. About 1,500 troops from the US Navy and Marine Corps, Albanian land forces, diving and helicopter groups and a Macedonian engineer platoon are participating in the three-week drill.

In other news, a strong earthquake, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, jolted northeastern Albania on Sunday. It was felt as far away as Tirana, Kosovo and Montenegro. No casualties were reported but 18 houses were destroyed. (Albanian News - 12/07/05; MIA - 11/07/05)
