The first residential election since Montenegro declared independence were held on April 6th 2008. The Democratic Party of Socialists' Filip Vujanovic was re-elected to the position with 58.89% of the vote. Behind him, with 19.55% of the vote was Serb List candidate Andrija Mandic.
The OSCE reported that the elections complied with international standards, but noted that the failure of the opposition parties to field a candidate narrowed voters' choices
Voter turnout was 68.2%.
