Gjorge Ivanov, candidate of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation-Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) was elected president of Macedonia, having won 63.1 per cent of valid ballots cast in the second round of presidential elections on April 5th, 2009. His opponent, Ljubomir Frckovski of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, won 36.9 per cent.
According to the State Election Commission, voter turnout exceeded 42 per cent of eligible voters, meeting the necessary threshold for the election results to stand.
