The results of the first parliamentary elections in Kosovo show the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) won 46.2 percent of the vote, leading to 47 seats in parliament. The next largest percentage went to the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) with 25.5 percent and 26 seats. The newly-formed Kosovo Serb political entity, Coalition Return, came in with 10.9 percent and 22 seats. The third-largest Kosovo Albanian political entity, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), received 7.8 percent of the vote and received 8 seats. The remaining seats are split among the ten other groups including the Roma, Bosniak, Gorani, Turkish and other minority communities in Kosovo.
The parliament formed by the election will be comprised of 120 seats and responsible for approving the first government of Kosovo, which technically remains under the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, according to the UN 1244 Resolution.
Voter turnout for the historic election on 17 November, in which 1.25 million people were eligible to vote, was 63 percent. Among the Kosovo Albanian community, the turnout was 65 percent while in the Kosovo Serb community within Kosovo the turnout was 46 percent. In Serbia proper, the turnout was 57 percent and in Montenegro it was 56 percent.
