Greece held early parliamentary elections on September 16th 2007, after Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis called the snap vote in a bid to gain a stronger mandate for planned reforms.
The centre-right New Democracy party won 41.8% of the vote, or 152 of the 300 seats in the assembly, and a new mandate for Karamanlis' government. However, the party's majority was trimmed as a result of the vote, which saw a significant increase in support for smaller political formations.
Left-wing PASOK, received 38.1%, which equals 102 seats. The Communist Party gained 10 seats for a total of 22, winning 8.2% of the vote, while the Radical Left Coalition won 5% and 14 seats. The far-right Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) party entered parliament for the first time. With 3.8% of the vote, it got 10 seats.
Voter turnout was 74%.
