German Army Lieutenant General Holger Kammerhoff assumed command of KFOR on 3 October 2003, replacing Italian Lieutenant General Fabio Mini. He became the 8th commander of KFOR since its deployment in Kosovo in June 1999.

Kammerhoff was born on 5 March 1945 in St. Andreasberg/Harz, Germany. He joined the Bundeswehr with a paratrooper battalion in 1965 and subsequently completed his officer's training, followed by the general staff training course at the Staff College in Hamburg.

During his career, Kammerhoff has held posts of increasing responsibility. He served at levels of command from platoon to brigade, and from 1988 to 1990 was Chief of Staff of the 3rd Armoured Division in Buxtehude. After attending the UK Higher Command and Staff Course, Kammerhoff was posted to the Ministry of Defence/Army Staff as branch chief for military policy and operations.

Kammerhoff has also participated in military operations abroad. From November 1993 to March 1994 he commanded the 2nd German UNOSOM contingent in Somalia. He also gained field experience in the Balkans through his service as commander of the International Force Headquarters in Croatia from March to November 1996. In April of the same year he was appointed deputy chief of staff of the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps, and in 1999 he became assistant director at NATO's International Military Staff in Brussels.

Prior to his appointment as commander of KFOR, Kammerhoff was commanding general of EUROCORPS, headquartered in Strasbourg, France. He had held that post since December 2001.

Kammerhoff is married and has one daughter.
