ZAGREB, Croatia -- The agriculture ministry and farmers agreed on Monday (March 8th) about payment of long-overdue subsidies. The deal will end farmers' protests over the last several days that included road blocks. Under the agreement, the cabinet has until 2010 to pay subsidies still owed from 2008. As for subsidies for the 2009/2010 harvest, the government will pay 86% of what is owed. Out of this, 60% will be disbursed in two instalments, one by the end of March and the other on April 15th. The rest will come in the form of raw materials. (HRT, Vecernji List, Jutarnji List, Nova TV - 08/03/10)
