BiH court upholds acquittal of former justice minister

05/02/2010

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) -- An Appeals Chamber on Thursday (February 4th) upheld the acquittal of former Bosnian Serb Justice Minister Momcilo Mandic, who was charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the 1992-1995 Bosnian conflict. A lower court found Mandic not guilty in July 2007 due to lack of evidence. The case involves an attack by Bosnian Serb police on the interior ministry's training centre in Sarajevo in 1992 and crimes committed in several correctional facilities. The Appeals Court rejected an attempt by prosecutors to overturn that acquittal. (RTRS, Srna, BHRT, Onasa, Dnevni Avaz - 04/02/10)
