TIRANA, Albania -- The Supreme State Audit has found irregularities and state budget abuse totalling 52.2m euros, according to a report published Wednesday (February 3rd). The audit traces the damage to 2007, 2008 and the first nine months of 2009, noting that most violations occurred before and after general elections last June. Violations were reported in collecting taxes, renting and selling state property, public procurement, and customs. Auditors have asked prosecutors to begin investigating nine public officials.
