Thessaloniki official says Karamanlis should remain ND leader

09/10/2009

ATHENS, Greece -- Thessaloniki prefecture Governor Panagiotis Psomiadis urged Costas Karamanlis on Thursday (October 8th) to remain at the helm of the New Democracy party. Karamanlis, the former prime minister, resigned from the leadership post after ND lost the October 4th snap elections. Psomiadis was the only politician to have formally announced he would run for the New Democracy's leadership post before backtracking on that Thursday. The party will hold an extraordinary congress on November 7th to elect its new leader. (ANA-MPA - 09/10/09; Nafhtemporiki - 08/10/09)
