Turkey bombs PKK targets in northern Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey -- Warplanes have bombed hideouts of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, media reported on Sunday (June 7th), citing military sources. Turkish military jets conducted the bombings on Saturday evening after PKK militants were spotted on Iraqi territory, as ground forces shelled PKK targets near the Turkish border.

In other news Sunday, one village guard was killed and two others were injured in a blast in the town of Uludere, in the southeastern province of Sirnak. A landmine exploded while the three were collecting wood. (Milliyet - 08/06/09; Hurriyet, Reuters, Anadolu news agency, AFP - 07/06/09)
