ANKARA, Turkey -- Both the prosecutor and the defence will present crucial arguments this week in the case against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). Chief Prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya will address the Constitutional Court on Tuesday (July 1st), while AKP members will present their defence on Thursday. The court will then decide whether to ban the AKP, which faces charges of undermining the secular nature of the state.
In other news, Belgian police turned over to Turkish authorities a copy of 200 files regarding the outlawed extreme leftist Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). The archival information covers the organisation's leadership, structure and activities. Police seized the documents from a DHKP-C safe house in Belgium.
