Army attacks PKK members trying to enter Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey -- The army attacked a group of 21 members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who tried to enter Turkey from the Zap region of northern Iraq late Monday (June 16th). The General Staff issued a statement Tuesday saying that the army "neutralised" the group moving towards the Turkish border.

In other news, Turkish police seized 41kg of heroin at the border with Bulgaria on Monday. After a drug-sniffing dog detected it in a car at the Kapikule checkpoint, officials arrested the Bulgarian driver. (Anadolu news agency, AP, AFP - 17/06/08; Xinhua - 16/06/08)
