ATHENS, Greece -- Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis unveiled his new cabinet Tuesday (September 18th). It includes 17 ministers, two less than in his previous administration. Karamanlis has decided to merge the interior and public order ministries and to appoint Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos as the head of the new department. The Merchant Marine Ministry has been merged with the Aegean and Island Policy Ministry.
As expected, Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, Finance Minister George Alogoskoufis and Defence Minister Evangelos Meimarakis are keeping their posts. The justice, education, tourism, transport, agriculture, development and culture portfolios have changed hands. Parliament is expected to approve the cabinet late on Wednesday.
